April Is Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Allegany County Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect reports that last year there were 448 suspected child abuse cases that were investigated or assessed by child protective services in Allegany County. Throughout the month of April, you may see blue and silver pinwheels at various locations.  To raise awareness of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, Prevent Child Abuse America and its sister chapters around the nation mobilize Pinwheels for Prevention campaigns.  Pinwheels symbolize a happy, carefree childhood and the belief that assisting children early is less costly than trying to fix problems after things go wrong.  Everyone has a role in preventing child abuse and supporting families.
