Arrest Made at WCI Smuggling Attempt

On Saturday at approximately 2:35PM, Tfc. C. A. Mattingly was dispatched to respond to the Western Correctional Institution (W.C.I.), located at 13800 McMullen Highway in Cresaptown, Allegany County, Maryland, for a report of a CDS complaint.  Upon arrival, contact was made with corrections officials who relayed that 2 females came to the institution to visit an inmate who is incarcerated there.  During the contact between the visitors and the inmate, corrections officials advised that the 2 females allegedly passed suspected marijuana to the inmate.  Corrections officials located and seized 17 small baggies of suspected marijuana, and contacted the Cumberland Barrack.  The females were identified as Mia Taft, 19 years of age of Baltimore, and a 16 year old female, also from Baltimore.  Taft was charged with possession of CDS, possession of CDS paraphernalia, possession of CDS with intent to deliver, delivery of contraband to a place of confinement, possession of contraband with intent to deliver to place of confinement, and possession of contraband at place of confinement.  Taft was held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $25,000.00 bond.  The 16 year old juvenile was released to the custody of her parents after charging.  Corrections officials advised that they will conduct an investigation, and will apply for charges accordingly for the inmate involved in the incident.
