Arrest Made During Distracted Driving Stop

April is distracted driving month, All Police agencies are enforcing the cell phone laws to keep the highways and roadways safe for all citizens.

As a result, On 4/02/14, Deputy Simpson of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office was monitoring traffic within the Allegany County area and observed a subject using a cell phone in the Cumberland Maryland area. Simpson initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as 36 year old Joseph Malloy of Mount Savage, Maryland. During the course of the stop Deputy Simpson determined that Malloy had been consuming alcoholic beverages while driving and appeared to be intoxicated.

The investigation revealed an open container of alcohol as well as several unopened containers of alcohol. As a result of the investigation Malloy was charged with Driving under the influence, Driving While Impaired, Violating license restriction for alcohol and Using a handheld device while operating a motor vehicle.
