Arrest Made in Case of Threat Against School

On Wednesday March 18, 2015, at 12:13 pm, members of the Allegany High School administration contacted the Cumberland City Police Department in reference to a possible threat of violence against the school. School Resource and patrol officers immediately responded and began an investigation into this matter where it was revealed that a note was found indicating a threat towards the school, students and staff.

The students were safely evacuated in prompt manner and dismissed from school for the remainder of the day. A Maryland State Police K9 bomb dog was utilized and conducted a scan of the building. Officers interviewed potential witnesses and reviewed the surveillance cameras of the area where the note was found.

A suspect was identified and was arrested. A thorough check of the school was conducted and found to be free of any items of suspicious nature. The fifteen year old juvenile was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department where he was charged as follows: -Arson/Bomb Threat -Disturbing School Operation -Disorderly Conduct – False Statement/Destructive Device. After processing, the juvenile was released to the custody of his parents pending adjudication with the Department of Juvenile Services as well as the Allegany States Attorney’s Office.
