Assessment Of Local Emergency/Utility Crews Response To Significant Storm

The overall assessment of how local emergency and utility crews responded to the June 29th storm the caused significant damage and left thousands without power for days at a time in Allegany County was positive. That is according to Dick DeVore, director of the county department of emergency services and John Emerick, external affairs manager for Potomac Edison, as both men made presentations to the County Commissioners at a public work session. Considering the power of the storm and the damage it caused, Devore said that Potomac Edison did an excellent job of restoring power as quickly as possible given the circumstances, and he said communication between the Utility and emergency management was outstanding.   DeVore said one thing the county needs to address is the fact that some gas stations weren’t operational from Hancock to Cumberland. He suggested looking at some way to make sure generators were available so that pumps could operate…
