An autopsy today confirmed what caused the death of a Washington County woman who was found dead in her home late yesterday morning.

An autopsy at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore was conducted today on the body of Sonya Y. Smith, 55, of the 23000-block of Foxville Road, Smithsburg, Md.  Smith’s body was found at her home shortly before 11:00 a.m. yesterday after relatives called and asked troopers to check her welfare.

Medical examiners determined Smith died from multiple gunshot wounds.  Her manner of death was confirmed as homicide.

Early today, State Police homicide investigators charged Anthony M. Minnick, 26, an acquaintance of the victim and her boyfriend, with Smith’s murder.  Further investigation determined Minnick’s most recent address to be in the 12000-block of Pleasant Valley Road, Smithsburg, Md.

Minnick had a bond hearing on the murder charges today before a District Court commissioner in Washington County.  Minnick was ordered held without bail.
