Baltimore Street Bridge Repairs To Begin Today

Maneuvering in downtown Cumberland will be even more difficult for the next few weeks as repairs to the railroad crossing and abutment of the Baltimore Street bridge begin today.  The three-week project will see Baltimore Street reduced to one-way traffic going westbound between Mechanic and Greene streets.  Cumberland City Engineer Robert Smith…

 

In addition, parking on the Baltimore Street Bridge will be prohibited.  Eastbound traffic from the West Side will be detoured toward North Smallwood and Cumberland streets in order to utilize the Market Street Bridge to access the downtown. Motorists are urged to use exit 43C of Interstate 68 to avoid the detour. Belt Paving will be working a night schedule of 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to continue work on the Mechanic Street Access Project in order to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. Pedestrian traffic will be allowed on the Baltimore Street bridge sidewalks. A flagger will assist in traffic control during the project. The project is expected to be completed by August 16th.
