Baseball Bat Allegedly Used In Maryland Avenue Incident

In the early morning hours of 08/29/15 Cumberland Police Officers responded to a Maryland Avenue residence for a report of an alleged assault with a baseball bat.  Officers spoke to witnesses in the area who stated the victim was inside a residence and was bleeding from the head.   The Cumberland Fire Department responded and transported the victim to the Western Maryland Health Center.  Officers then conducted an investigation by interviewing several witnesses at the scene and the victim at the hospital.  A suspect was then developed.  It was learned the victim and the suspect were inside a residence and an argument started which led to the assault.  The suspect then fled the scene.  As a result of the investigation charges were filed at the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office on Daulton Barnhart.  Barnhart was located and placed under arrest for the assault.   He was processed and taken before the District Court Commissioner’s Office.  He was then remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on $5,500.
