Bear killed on Interstate 68, driver injured

The Cumberland Times News reports a motorist was injured early Wednesday when her vehicle struck a bear on eastbound Interstate 68 near the Frostburg exit, according to the Allegany County 911 emergency center. The driver was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Frostburg Area Ambulance for treatment of apparently minor injuries, said a firefighter at the scene. The incident occurred at 4:50 a.m. and prompted response from Frostburg and Shaft volunteer fire departments to the scene along with Maryland State Police. The bear weighed about 100 pounds and was killed by the impact of the crash, according to authorities.
