It was announced in the fall that Allegany County would see an increase in transportation funding through Highway User Revenues- made possible by bipartisan legislation signed by Governor Larry Hogan last year. Allegany County will receive more than $2,885,233 in Highway User Revenues this year, an increase of $414,559 over last year’s allocation. In the summer of 2009, many counties lost up to 90% of their highway user revenues in the midst of a recession. The increased money for counties in recent years was part of legislation passed in 2018 by the General Assembly that raised the amounts of revenues provided. Why don’t we pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and pay for our own highways. Then those liberals in Annapolis wouldn’t have to give us money we didn’t earn.
