Bid Proposals for New Allegany Scheduled September 2nd

In just a few weeks the Allegany County Board of Education will finally have a solid cost projection for the planned new Allegany High School. The board has issued a press release announcing that  bid day for proposals from construction companies interested in building the new school has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 2nd at 1 pm at the board’s central office. According to the release the  bids, which were scheduled to be opened yesterday (Wednesday) , had been postponed so school officials could resolve state ­level questions about the architectural plans. Estimated to cost $42 million, the new school will be constructed on Haystack Mountain in the footprint of the former Sacred Heart Hospital. The demolition of the former hospital was completed in early July.  At last check, the board was about $5 million short for the project. At a recent meeting between local officials and Maryland’s Secretary of Budget and Management, Delegate Jason Buckel requested additional state funding to help complete the budget package if necessary. He said that the local delegation has pushed for legislation calling for increased funding for school construction…
