The house recently constructed by students at the Center for Career and Technical Education is now complete and is open for bids. Junior and senior building trades students have been working on the home project for several years as part of the Career Center’s residential training for these skill areas. The Career Center, in cooperation with the Allegany County Building Trades Education Foundation, Inc., oversees the student house project.

This year’s home features a living area of 1,728 square feet; two bedrooms and two bathrooms; gas forced air with air conditioning; public water and sewage; pre-wired for cable, telephone, and Internet; stainless steel dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator; high-end cabinets with crown molding; hardwood floors in the great room and Berber carpet in the bedrooms; ceramic tile kitchen and bathrooms; 30-year shingle roof; stone and vinyl maintenance-free exterior; high-performance insulation package; oversize seamless gutters; security system; oversized master bathtub/shower; tankless water heater; LED recessed lighting throughout; finished garage and basement; and 10×12 Trex deck.

There will be an Open House on February 25, 2017, from noon until 4 p.m. to allow potential buyers to place a bid. Sealed bids will be accepted until March 31, 2017, at noon, and should be mailed to the Center for Career and Technical Education, Attn: Bids, 14211 McMullen Highway, Cresaptown, MD 21502. Sealed bids will be opened on March 31st at 2:00 p.m. Bid sheets are available at the Career Center. The Allegany County Building Trades Education Foundation, Inc. reserves the right to reject any and all bids for the sale of this home.

On the day of the bid opening, a successful bidder must submit a $2,000 earnest money deposit and a signed letter of intent to purchase for the amount of the bid. This year’s minimum bid is $180,000. Checks should be made payable to the Allegany County Building Trades Education Foundation, Inc. If contingency on financing is necessary, a successful bidder must submit a letter of pre-qualification from a lender stating that a bidder is qualified for the loan. Five working days after the sale, a successful bidder must enter into a formal contract for the purchase of the property. Settlement must be made 60 days after the contract ratification. If a bidder is unable to complete the contract terms, earnest money will be refunded in full.

The construction of this home has allowed students to demonstrate the skills they acquired from their residential training. All proceeds from the sale of the house will finance an on-going house construction project.
