WBAL reports two more casino companies applied for a license Friday to build a casino in Maryland near the nation's capital, bringing the number of applicants to three for one license. Penn National Gaming Inc. and Greenwood Racing Inc. both submitted proposals to meet a deadline with the state.

Penn National, which is based in Wyomissing, Pa., is proposing a $700 million casino at the company's Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George's County, about 13 miles from Washington. Its proposed Hollywood Casino Resort at Rosecroft Raceway would include slot machines, live table games and a poker room. The plan also includes a hotel with a pool and spa and a multipurpose event center. Rosecroft also would feature horse racing.

Maryland Casino LLC, a subsidiary of Greenwood Racing, is proposing to build an $800 million casino on a 22-acre parcel in Fort Washington. Its plans include a hotel and entertainment venue. The site would be at the intersection of Indian Head Highway and Old Fort Road. Greenwood Racing is the owner and operator of Pennsylvania's highest revenue-generating casino, Parx Casino.
