Bill Would Require Drivers To “Opt Out” Of Organ Donation

As of today, in the state of Maryland, being an organ donor is a choice. However, a bill being introduced during this session of the General Assembly will require drivers to "opt out" instead of "opting in." Meaning that if the a Maryland driver doesn’t take the pro-active approach of opting out when re-newing their license, the state will essentially “own” your organs once you pass on. A hearing on the bill was held in Annapolis last week. Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine said he finds the legislation alarming, and believes there hasn’t been more of an outcry against it- simply because most citizens aren’t aware of it, or the ramifications…
