Also addressing the issue was Evan West, UniServ director for education associations in Allegany and Garrett counties. He said that a survey of staff revealed problems in about half of the system’s 24 buildings…

I would be willing to bet that Garrett County has had zero problems at any of its schools.

When so many items in the local news concern, for example, the woman arrested on assault charges, two miscreants, I’m sorry, alleged miscreants, throwing illegal fireworks at police and this goes on every day around here.
At least some of these individuals have kids in the local schools and these kids are bringing the mind set and behavior that they are taught at home into the school with them.
I don’t have any answers as you can’t just expel them. They are required by law to remain in the school system up to some certain age.
Is it nature or nurture? I’m guessing on the latter.

Children follow what they see and hear. The root needs to be changed: Acknowledge good behavior in all the schools, talk to the kids about violent video games, have the day school day start with a good vibe by having the kids say Hi to their classmates. Just Be is Kind signs are in Cumberland. Buy them.

      > Another attempt to blame video games for aggressive behavior.
In the 50s and 60s juvenile delinquency was blamed on violent TV programs. Everything from western shoot-em-ups to Bugs Bunny cartoons.
Pointing the finger of blame does nothing to solve a complex problem. It’s nothing more than an attempt to give a simplistic answer to a complex problem.

Parents need to be called in, if the matter isn’t corrected, than assault charges are made. Their expelled from school.
These children today need to learn, cuddling them and o honey that’s not nice DON’T work.
This world today has to many bleeding hearts. It a cold, nasty world and as children they need to learn right from wrong. They need to learn YOUR responsible for your behavior, or there’s a price to be paid,

No child left behind is such a wonderful law isn’t it. Tie that into the liberal agenda and policies and this is what you have!

Is that the conservative (Trump) agenda?

NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND is A WONDERFUL THOUGHT AND CONCEPT. NOW IN THE REAL WORLD we have REALITY- which is the majority of parents don’t care or wish to know the children they brought into this world. Sometimes because they are busy working to make ends meet, they are over whelmed with today’s world, busy with their cell phone, facebook, twitter, drugs, or just wrapped up in themselves. Technology can be great, but hypnotic and it can dull the senses. We need to relook at what and how we teach our children. So much GOOD has ben lost over the years because of the way we educate, raise, train, and DEMAND from our children.

Come on Mac, this is not a Trump issue. It’s really a parenting issue, I know you know that. Personally I for one loved Bugs Bunny, he was rather clever. As for the two ” Alleged ” miscreants, you saw their pictures, projecting that enviable aura of superior intelligence. Just think, we can all look forward to the younger one procreating, though it will most likely be the product of a rape. If I were on the job, I could not have made the collar, I would have been laughing too hard. That had to be a Wiley Coyote short subject. just saying. ” Meet The Rambos ” I’m astonished there was no spitting involved. See Ya !

      > hollywood, when I see an argument lumped into the liberal agenda I can only assume that the opposite argument is considered the conservative (Trump) take.
I did not associate a political position to anything here someone else did. I’m only mentioning the difference.

Well, that’s easy to do these days, everything can get a little polarized, think the media has a lot to do with it, unbiased reporting ? not so much anymore.

Here’s a great example, the article herein which states 290 homicides in Baltimore so far this year, do you see the picture next to the paragraph? Is that not a reasonable facsimile of an assault rifle, a visual aid perhaps. Not trying to split hairs, just pointing out the power of suggestion. How many of the 290 homicides in Baltimore this year were committed using an AR-15. By the way my kid is visiting from Canada, he is in agreement with Mac about attempting to blame video games for what amounts to plain bad behavior. Same with over reaching gun control, or is it bad behavior, ( mental health ) which must be addressed.

Yes I know, an AR-15 is technically not an assault rifle and I agree.

Frankly I’m somewhat surprised by the civility shown during this rather long comment thread. Usually they degenerate into name calling and insults.
    Congratulations everyone.
