According to teacher representatives, there has been an alarming increase in aggressive and violent behavior among students, and the situation needs to be addressed. Peggy Bass, Allegany County Education Association Second Vice President, during this week’s meeting of the Board of Education reported that teachers have been assaulted and spat on and those problems are putting both teachers and students in jeopardy. Also addressing the issue was Evan West, UniServ director for education associations in Allegany and Garrett counties. He said that a survey of staff revealed problems in about half of the system’s 24 buildings…

When so many items in the local news concern, for example, the woman arrested on assault charges, two miscreants, I’m sorry, alleged miscreants, throwing illegal fireworks at police and this goes on every day around here.
At least some of these individuals have kids in the local schools and these kids are bringing the mind set and behavior that they are taught at home into the school with them.
I don’t have any answers as you can’t just expel them. They are required by law to remain in the school system up to some certain age.
Is it nature or nurture? I’m guessing on the latter.

Children follow what they see and hear. The root needs to be changed: Acknowledge good behavior in all the schools, talk to the kids about violent video games, have the day school day start with a good vibe by having the kids say Hi to their classmates. Just Be is Kind signs are in Cumberland. Buy them.

In the 50s and 60s juvenile delinquency was blamed on violent TV programs. Everything from western shoot-em-ups to Bugs Bunny cartoons.
Pointing the finger of blame does nothing to solve a complex problem. It’s nothing more than an attempt to give a simplistic answer to a complex problem.

These children today need to learn, cuddling them and o honey that’s not nice DON’T work.
This world today has to many bleeding hearts. It a cold, nasty world and as children they need to learn right from wrong. They need to learn YOUR responsible for your behavior, or there’s a price to be paid,

Here’s a great example, the article herein which states 290 homicides in Baltimore so far this year, do you see the picture next to the paragraph? Is that not a reasonable facsimile of an assault rifle, a visual aid perhaps. Not trying to split hairs, just pointing out the power of suggestion. How many of the 290 homicides in Baltimore this year were committed using an AR-15. By the way my kid is visiting from Canada, he is in agreement with Mac about attempting to blame video games for what amounts to plain bad behavior. Same with over reaching gun control, or is it bad behavior, ( mental health ) which must be addressed.
