Board of Education Looking for Help on Lunch Money Collection

November 14th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

It's been an issue of concern for several years, and now the Allegany County Board of Education is looking for some help from the general assembly to collect from parents who refuse to pay for their childrens school lunches. The numbers last year showed that about 1,200 students, most of whom don’t qualify for free or reduced-cost meals, owe more than $31,000 for meals. Still looking at a significant debt, board member Mike Llewellyn would like to see the local delegation introduce a bill that would allow the board to take civil action against parents who owe lunch money.
