The Allegany County Board of Education may receive fewer county funding dollars next year as a result of another decline in student population. The county commissioners have essentially provided the “maintenance of effort” funding level to the school board for several years- with funding based largely on enrollment numbers. Allegany County had a net loss of 102 students for fiscal 2018. During this week’s public meeting, Superintendent David Cox provided the latest student enrollment numbers- although they are not yet official- and they show fewer students attending public schools again this year…
