Board of Education Puts Superintendent Search on Hold

May 13th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

As a result of complications created by the ongoing COVID-19, the Allegany County Board of Education has placed it’s search for the next superintendent on hold. Board President Tammy Fraley read a brief statement during Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting…

The decision represents a complete reversal from the board’s previous position.  Just last month Fraley told WCBC News that she was confident the technology in place would allow for a thorough and successful interview process-  even if no in person talks were able to be held.  The position was advertised in April and initial, structured  interviews were to take place in early this month. The board is required to have the job filled by July 1st.  Whether this delay will allow the board to be able to meet that deadline is now uncertain- .  and requesting interim Superintendent Jeff Blank to continue on the job for another year remains a possibility.  Another factor in this process not to be overlooked is the November election.  The board-  by a 3-2 vote last year- chose to conduct a national search  as opposed to simply appointing Blank as the permanent superintendent.  The election this fall could change the makeup and dynamics of the board- and in turn lead to another shift in philosophies as to how best to proceed with the hire.

I’m sure that Tammy will treat this required deadline with the same respect that went into the required date for the school budget audits submitted to the County.

      > Blank did not end the drama at Washington Street. Getting rid of Foote and taking power away from Bob Farrell is what ended all the drama at Washington Street.

Please keep Mr. Blank. He is a good man. Stop wasting money to conduct a search when you have a man who is doing an exceptional job. Use the money to give teachers a bonus or buy supplies for the students.

Tammy Fraley wants to consolidate her hold over the BOE by moving up from President of the School Board to Superintendent.
If she doesn’t get her way she will file a complaint with the Board of Ethics, as she has done numerous times in the past.
