Board of Education to Decide on Retention of Cox

In ceremonies next Tuesday, two newly elected members to the Allegany County Board of Education will officially be sworn into office- and by the end of the month the new board will need to make a decision on whether or not to retain Superintendent David Cox.  Cox, who was first appointed to the position in July of 2009, will see his contract expire at the end of June. By Maryland law- both parties must give notification by February 1- as to their plans.  Meaning if Cox is not interested in returning, or the board wishes to pursue a new superintendent- they must make those intentions known by February 1.  Based on contacts with board members and various sources, it appears to be a split vote at this time.
