Board Tweaking Proposed Teaching on Controversial Issues Policy

First discussed in early June- the Allegany County Board of Education is continuing to tweak a proposed Teaching on Controversial Issues policy.  The board, during this week’s public session, agreed to once again send the proposal back to the policy committee to further refine the language.  Much of the modifications to the proposal to date have centered on developing a clear definition of what qualifies as a “controversial issue”.  Board attorney Mike Llewellyn said the policy, if ultimately approved,  would establish guidelines in the classroom or during other educational activities under the supervision of a teacher during a school day. The intent, he says, is to offer protection for teachers as well as to provide some direction when so-called “controversial” topics are discussed with students…

    The only purpose for this ridiculous policy is to keep teachers toeing the party line. It is to keep the parents voting to re-elect idiots rather than having an opportunity to examine failed leadership.
