Body found in river identified

On Thursday evening, shortly before dark, the Maryland Natural Resources Police responded to the report of a body being found in the waters of the North Branch of the Potomac River approximately 1 mile downstream from the Mason South End Recreational Complex. A man and his son were kayaking in the area when they discovered the body and notified 911.          Officers with DNR, Deputies with the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, and Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) all responded to the scene. The body was removed from the water by members of the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team.  The victim has been identified as 36 year old Jason Leonard Crawford, Sr. of Cumberland. Crawford was reported as a missing person to the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office on 05/15/2013.

 

            The body was transported to the Maryland State Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

 

            The investigation is continuing by the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office and C3I.
