BOE Extends All-Virtual Learning Mandate

With COVID-19 numbers spiking in the school system and a surge across Allegany County, the Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to continue fully virtual-learning until the metrics improve; and to postpone the fall sports season until February. Allegany County’s positivity numbers and case rates are the highest in the state- and have spiked dramatically in the past month. In recent weeks more and more cases have been reported in the public school system with cases as well as related quarantines drastically reducing available staffing. The board was briefed on the latest COVID data by County Health Department officials to begin the regular monthly meeting- and then voted to keep schools closed; and to delay fall sports. The sports schedule adopted is a two semester plan with winter sports slated to begin December 7th and fall sports delayed until February 13th.
