BOE Gets Look At What A New Allegany High School Might Look Like

The Allegany County Board of Education, on Tuesday got a detailed look at what the new Allegany High School could look like upon it’s completion at the site of the former Sacred Heart Hospital. Grimm & Parker Architects of Calverton presented their findings of a feasibility study during the board’s public work session. The firm has been studying the site for several months to determine whether to tear down all or parts of the former hospital buildings — or try to repurpose them — when contractors eventually break ground on a new school. The hospital site, which was acquired by the BOE in December in a land swap with the city of Cumberland and Western Maryland Health System, was approved last month by the state’s Interagency Committee for Public School Construction. That’s one of a number of hurdles that local officials have had to clear in the lengthy process of obtaining state funding for the project.  Superintendent David Cox said that a number of presentations on the proposed new school have been presented and well received in Annapolis…
