BoE Holds Preliminary Vote On Policy Change Allowing Members To Answer Public Questions

April 24th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Board of Education Monday evening held the first reading of a change in policy which would allow board members to respond to questions from the public at meetings and work sessions.

Board member Tammy Fraley serves on the Policy Committee, and has proposed eliminating the designation between meetings and work sessions…

If public questions are raised during a meeting, after all public comments, each board member would be given three minutes to respond to the issues that they choose.

The policy was given a preliminary vote of 4 to 1 and sent back to the committee for further refinement. Board President Dr. Sara Beth Bittinger voted in the negative, saying she saw the potential for a free for all if some limitations were not specified.
