BoE Looking At $1.6 Million Loss After Student Enrollment Decline

Looking at an estimated loss of $1.6 million in state and county funding as a result of a decline in student enrollment- the Allegany County Board of Education is preparing to enter the budget process with little room to maneuver. The latest numbers show the public school system down by about 120 students compared to last year- and with state and county funding formulas largely based on enrollment- the board’s finance director projects a hit of more than a million and a half dollars.  Board vice president Tammy Fraley says now is the time to start bracing- and preparing-  for those cuts…
