BoE Members Argue Over School Safety And Security Policy

April 24th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Another meeting of the Allegany County Board of Education saw another 3-2 split vote- this time on the process that will be used to hire a school safety coordinator. The argument began when board member David Bohn  proposed an amendment to a previously agreed upon  School Safety and Security policy- suggesting that Superintendent David Cox nominate a person to fill the security chief position- with the elected board then deciding whether or not to accept his recommendation. The proposed change was strongly opposed by board member Debra Frank- calling it a blatant attempt by members Bohn, Robert Farrell and Wayne Foote to handpick the individual that will oversee school security…

Frank blasted Farrell, saying his mind is already made up; calling his alleged choice for the job is the “worst kept secret” in the county.  She accused the Board President of practicing nepotism- a charge Farrell strongly refuted…
