BoE Met Recently For Annual Retreat

The Allegany County Board of Education met recently for its annual retreat- and at least one board member hopes that it may represent a move away from the conflict and controversy that has dominated the first half year in office for the new board.  It’s common for school boards to meet privately in a “retreat” setting to discuss what they deem to be internal matters with professional facilitators. Receiving training, Improving teamwork or communication skills are all part of those sessions.  Since the makeup of the school board changed somewhat dramatically with two new members being sworn in this past January- there has been regular friction, debate and a clear divide on many key issues.     Just one more example of doing things the Western Maryland way.
    If the purpose of the retreat is to improve communication skills and teamwork among members of the Board wouldn’t it be more useful to schedule the retreat at the beginning of the term and not six months into it? A lot of needless drama and fractious behavior might have been eliminated by just developing the members communication skills early.
    I mean, c’mon people, this isn’t rocket science.
    I have no idea what Board President Farrell said as the audio links don’t work. Maybe he pointed out the same thing, but I doubt it.

      > Having lost his lawsuit and seeing his nemesis moving to better pastures, maybe Bob will mello out a bit. I’m not holding my breath, but when amigo #3 gets bounced his “majority” will be weakened for a time. Time to look to the future if he wants to get anything done.
