BOE President: Resuming In-Person Instruction a Top Priority and Biggest Challenge of 2021

The Allegany County Board of Education will hold its first meeting of the new year on Tuesday and it will be a packed agenda, topped by a discussion of the return-to-school schedule. Since cases of the Coronavirus began spiking locally in October, the public school system has been in a virtual learning system. The board members will receive an update at the meeting from local heatlh officials outlining the latest metrics; discuss staffing issues and outline a plan to move forward. The board will also have a budget discussion- establishing priorities for the 2021-2022 school year. Newly elected board member Crystal Bender will be participating in her first session which will begin with the election of officers. Although not on Tuesday’s agenda, the board will soon begin the search for a permanent superintendent.
