BoE Seeking 2.9% Funding Increase

With a desire to reduce the teacher to student ratio; fund after-school programs and purchase seven learning labs- the Allegany County Board is seeking a 2.9% funding increase from the county above last year’s allocation. In recent years the county has funded the board at the minimum allowed by state law, in what is known as the “maintenance of effort” level. Commissioner President Jake Shade said if the county took that approach again it would actually result in a budget cut to the board. While no final decisions have been made, Shade said he is not looking to reduce education funding at this point…
