BOE To Discuss Collection Of Overdue Lunch Money Policy

The Allegany County Board of Education during Tuesday’s work session will review a proposed policy for collecting overdue lunch money. The system is owed tens or thousands of dollars as a result of parents and students falling significantly behind in their lunch accounts- and in recent years any number of options have been considered, including the concept of providing a “scaled down” lunch option for those kids who owe money. It has been an emotional issue for some board members who are wrestling with the notion of punishing kids for something that in most cases is the fault of the parents. Board President Mike Llewellyn said that it’s obvious the existing system isn’t effective as there is no real penalty for those falling behind in lunch bills…
