On Thursday, the Allegany County Board of Education will formally present its budget request to the County Commissioners- with the board is seeking a $1.1 million increase over last year. The superintendent’s proposed budget was detailed during a recent special budget meeting at the board’s Central Office. According to board finance director Larry McKenzie, the school board has developed a $111.8 million budget for fiscal 2018 with the largest expense in the budget is salaries and wages at $64 million. Having taken budget hits for several years now, the board has reduced personnel by an estimated 230 employees to address the fiscal challenges.
