BoE To Present Budget Request To County Commissioners On Thursday

On Thursday, the Allegany County Board of Education will formally present its budget request to the County Commissioners- with the board is seeking a $1.1 million increase over last year. The superintendent’s proposed budget was detailed during a recent special budget meeting at the board’s Central Office. According to board finance director Larry McKenzie, the school board has developed a $111.8 million budget for fiscal 2018 with the largest expense in the budget is salaries and wages at $64 million. Having taken budget hits for several years now, the board has reduced personnel by an estimated 230 employees to address the fiscal challenges. School Board President Laurie Marchini says the goal is always to avoid negatively impacting the classrooms and teachers- but that is becoming more and more difficult each year…
