On Saturday, Cumberland Police served a Bench Warrant on Geri Crites, age 32, of the city.
The Warrant stemmed from Crites failing to appear in District Court on December 5, 2019 on theft charges. Crites was later provided an Initial Appearance in District Court and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on $1000 bond.

The Eight Amendment of the US Constitution prohibits “excessive bail, excessive fines, or cruel and unusual punishments.”
Loosely translated, the Eighth Amendment states that the punishment must fit the crime. In order to change that we would have to amend the Constitution. Should we institute something like Sharia Law where a person would have their hands cut off for theft?
