BREAKING: General Assembly To Adjourn Wednesday

March 15th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland General Assembly will end early, finishing the current session on Wednesday, which is weeks ahead of schedule.

The announcement was made Sunday afternoon by Senate President Bill Ferguson and House Speaker Adriene Jones at a news conference in Annapolis.

The Maryland State House has been closed to the public and lobbyists in recent days in order to limit the number of people in the building.  On the other hand, Ferguson told the media that lawmakers are taking steps to ensure transparency throughout the rest of the session.

The 90 day session was due to end on April 6.

Early indications are that the General Assembly wants to reconvene in late May to finish pressing business.
