Gubernatorial Candidate Dies Of Cardiac Arrest

May 10th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz died this morning after suffering cardiac arrest at his home.

He was 60.

Kamenetz was part of a handful of Democrats seeking to run against incumbent Republican Larry Hogan.  Although he finished fifth in a recent straw poll at the Western Maryland Democratic Summit at Rocky Gap, the margin of where he finished, at 45 votes, to the top vote getter, Rushern Baker, with 62 votes, was not thought to be insurmountable.

Baltimore County officials are to conduct at press conference to reveal additonal details.

Governor Larry Hogan today released the following statement on the death of Kamenetz:

"The First Lady and I are saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz this morning. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

"He was a dedicated public servant in Baltimore County for more than two decades, and we join with the citizens of Baltimore County and all Marylanders in mourning.

"Our prayers go out to his wife, Jill, his sons Karson and Dylan, and to his entire family. In the difficult days to come, we will provide any support we possibly can to the Kamenetz family and the citizens of Baltimore County."

The governor directed all Maryland flags be lowered today through sunset on the day of interment.
