BREAKING: Maryland Educators Call For Virtual Start To 2020-21 Year

July 14th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Today the Maryland State Education Association, the Baltimore Teachers Union, and the Maryland PTA issued a joint call for the fall semester of the upcoming school year to be virtual. The three groups sent a letter to Gov. Larry Hogan and State School Superintendent Karen Salmon encouraging them to support this course of action to protect the health and safety of Maryland students, educators, and families.

“We must rise above politics and focus on the reality and complexities of safely reopening schools,” the letter reads. “If we open our schools too quickly and without adequate safety precautions, the result will be that some educators, students, and their family members will contract the coronavirus. Some will recover, some will face debilitating health consequences or healthcare bills that they cannot pay, and some will die. These are stubborn facts. And they are costs and consequences that we must refuse to accept. A perfect solution does not exist. A safe one does.”

It’s the only rational choice at this point. As mentioned, a return to the buildings by students would require many, many protocols and modifications to the interior and exterior of the buildings, new platforms for delivery of instruction for subjects such as PE, music, art, and tech ed, and a significant amount of training for the teaching staff as well as bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria staff, and administrative staff. I haven’t seen or heard of anything like that being talked about or planned at 108 Washington Street.

For your consideration, use your favorite search engine and look up “German University of Dresden virus study” for other information on the subject of kids, teachers, and school.

Epic fail. The historians are going to have a field day with the ineptitude of the federal government during this period of time.

As other jobs have taken pay cuts it should be safe to assume teachers are then accepting that their pay will be cut as other state jobs and less work as they have less responsibility based on the teachers who hung out at our business when they were electronicly clocked in supposedly working it was sad to see actually
