Arrests in a major college admissions scam announced today incldue the wife of a famous actor who grew up here.
Authorities say that the defendants — principally individuals whose high-school-age children were applying to college — conspired with others to use bribery and other forms of fraud to facilitate their children's admission to colleges and universities in the District of Massachusetts and elsewhere … including Yale University, Stanford University, and the University of Southern California. U-S Attorney Andrew Lelling today …. saying 33-parents have been charged in the scheme:
They include, for example, CEOs of private and public companies, successful securities and real estate investors, two well-known actresses, a famous fashion designer, and the co-chairman of a global law firm.
One of the actresses is Felicity Huffman, who is married to actor William H. Macy. Macy grew up in Cumberland and graduated from Allegany High School. Rush Limbaugh referenced Macy on his show today, and noted that he has not been charged in the operation.
