8:25 PM UPDATE:
Emergency officials report that US 40 has been reopened and the pedestrian has been transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment.
INITIAL REPORT:
Allegany County 911 is reporting that a pedestrian has been struck on Route 40 near 231 National Highway in LaVale.
The road has been shut down in both directions as emergency personnel respond.
