BREAKING: Times News To Only Publish Five Days A Week

April 29th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News will only publish a newpaper five days a week, beginning May 5.

In a letter to readers, Publisher Robert Forcey said economic realities for the newspaper business, in general, and the current advertising climate brought on by budget cuts due to COVID0-19, have forced the decision.

The paper will now only be published on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, which will be considered a weekend edition.

A few years back, the printing of the paper was moved to Johnstown, resulting in the layoffs of printers and pressmen.

Cumberland had been the home of the Cumberland News and the Cumberland Times through the early 1980's, which had been considered a move to strengthen the company, which owned both publications.

Maybe supporting stay at home in the news is such a bad idea. How about start explaining how that advertisement called stay home has brought resentment to losing advertisers.

Shame to see the demise in local papers over the years, but it’s ALL about money. Though I must say the local paper has become much more of a ‘pamphlet’ than an actual ‘NEWS’ paper.

Cost of the paper continued to rise over the years, with old news and declining service. Glad I cancelled mine a year ago. Too many other sources for “current” news & updates.

OMG! The are going to stop printing Tuesday and Sunday? What am I going to use to line my cat’s litter box?

I doubt anyone will notice a difference missing those two days other than the delivery boys. In my humble opinion they could stop printing the newspaper and that crap magazine Allegany and the region would be better off all together.

CTN could have used this writer to flush out its page or two with addled nonsense.

You could see the classified section decreasing even before the current epidemic. I know many people who stopped advertising in the local paper because of the cost, especially when there are so many ways to advertise now for free. If they want to bring back advertisers, they should seriously consider lowering the rates. Two years ago I paid $35 for an ad for one week.

CTN will need to clarify how this affects current subscription costs…if they remain the same, then I’ll probably cancel.

Another improvement will be made when they go to a weekly publication. Maybe we can save some trees and cut back on a plethora of fake news at the same time.

      > “Cumberland had been the home of the Cumberland News and the Cumberland Times through the early 1980′s,” way through like the 1880′s. Used to be published twice a day, morning edition and evening and once on Sunday. Them days are passed.
