Bridge Connecting Carpendale To Bowling Green Proposed

July 10th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Mayor Butch Armentrout has approached the local legislative delegation, the Mineral County Development Authority and Congressman David Mckinley about the possibility of a bridge from Carpendale to Bowling Green- and a meeting on that proposal was held Monday afternoon.  The bridge would connect about 200 acres of CSX property located beyond the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad track to the south side of Interstate 68 Exit 42, located on U.S. Route 220.  The mayor estimated that the bridge would be 300 feet long and cost about $3.5 million. Delegate Howell said the property could be turned into a Tax Incremental Finance District and the construction bonds for the bridge and other road work development would be paid from TIF property taxes. Howell tells WCBC News he has been actively seeking a business to locate on the CSX property as an anchor- saying that the TIF district would be similar to that of Cabela’s in Wheeling- which attracted other retail businesses. He says if a retail park were to be built on the property, it would, in turn, create jobs…
