Delegation advises School Board to halt search, extend interim superintendent for a year

May 15th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

It appears as though the decision this week by the Allegany County School Board to suspend it’s search for the next superintendent was made as result of pressure from a number of outside sources- including the state superintendent of schools and the District One Delegation. Letters from the delegation, State Superintendent Karen Salmon and the Allegany County Education Association all urged the board to halt the search process given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In it’s public/online session this week- the board announced it was suspending the search but offered nothing in the way of explanation for the change in course. Delegate Jason Buckel talked with  WCBC News about the delegation’s recommendation to the board…

So, common sense had to be imposed on the BOE as none was to be found internally.

School will not be in session until the next academic year. Even then the start may be delayed.
The new Superintendent is not needed as there is nothing to superintend.
The BOE has their own agenda. They are trying to appear necessary and important even though schools have been suspended and rely solely on internet classes.
The Board can justify their existence by passing out lunches until this is all over.

No, that is incorrect. There is more than usual to superintend due to the ever-changing plans that need to be made to provide education as this crisis evolves. The paperwork required by the MSDE and teleconferences, etc. make the job harder, not easier. I hope that the interim superintendent stays longer just for this reason, just as the state superintendent postponed her retirement to help in this time of great need. Both the local senior staff of the ACPS and the Maryland State Department of Education have tremendous jobs to do, even more so at this time. I applaud them for doing the best that they can in very trying circumstances.

Karen Salmon is a hypocrite to stop search. She is also leaving soon. Also same lunatic who suggested to pass all students till public pressure demanded she not just allow all to pass. So what agenda is the BOE having. Like no secret agenda just plain old funding a permanent head of schools.
