Building Collapses in Hagerstown; No Injuries Reported

UPDATE: Inspectors from the city along with the Hagerstown Fire Marshal’s office are inspecting the building to try and predict whether any additional collapses could occur.

When the Hagerstown Fire Department arrived at the scene, there were still occupants inside of the building but were in a part of the building that did not sustain any damage.

Battalion Chief of the Hagerstown Fire Department said that he knew of construction that was occurring in the building.

No injuries of any occupants or firefighters have been reported.

The portion of Jonathan Street where the incident occurred will remain closed off to vehicle and foot traffic for the foreseeable future.

Investigators are still trying to identify a cause for this collapse.


The Hagerstown Fire Department is on the scene of a building located on Jonathan St. and Washington St. in downtown Hagerstown that collapsed at approximately 4:50 pm.

Officials say at least one floor has collapsed and a large amount of water is pouring from the front of the building, the cause of the collapse has not been identified. No injuries have been reported. Jonathan St. has been blocked off, access from Franklin St. has also been cut off.
