One way for the Allegany County Board of Education to see an increase in local funding next year is by way of maintenance of effort is as simple as having a larger student population. Early data shows that to be the case. The school board actually received few dollars for FY 2014 from the county as a result of a student decline. Maintenance of effort does not require that the same funding level from last year be allocated the next- it is more complicated and based on cost per pupil. If a school system has fewer students than the previous year, funding can take a hit.
