Bump In Student Enrollment Could Mean More Funding For School System

One way for the Allegany County Board of Education to see an increase in local funding next year is by way of maintenance of effort is as simple as having a larger student population. Early data shows that to be the case. The school board actually received few dollars for FY 2014 from the county as a result of a student decline. Maintenance of effort does not require that the same funding level from last year be allocated the next- it is more complicated and based on cost per pupil. If a school system has fewer students than the previous year, funding can take a hit. According to School Superintendent Dr David Cox, the good news early on is that there has been a bump in student enrollment….
