C3I, Allegany County Sheriff’s Department Make Arrest In Coney

September 10th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

On 9/9/15 at about 2:20 PM, Deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff's Office, aided by the C3I Fugitive Unit, located and arrested Steven Michael Hatfield (24 years of age, Lonaconing) at a private residence on Jackson St. in Lonaconing, hiding in the basement.  The Parole Retake Warrant was applied for by the Division of Parole and Probation and issued by the Maryland Parole Commission alleging that Hatfield violated the terms of his parole on a previous possession with intent to distribute CDS charge.

While transporting Hatfield to the Western Correctional Institute in Cresaptown, he complained of feeling ill at which time the Deputy stopped at the 220 Park & Ride.  Hatfield was able get one of his hands free from the handcuffs, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.  After a foot pursuit, Hatfield was taken into custody by Sheriff's Deputies and transferred to the custody of the Division of Corrections (WCI) without further incident.

The south bound lane of McMullen Hwy. in area of I-68 was closed for approximately 20 minutes during the incident.  Troopers from the Maryland State Police along with Officers from the Cumberland City Police Department assisted during this incident.

Additional charges are being applied for on Hatfield by the Sheriff's Office.
