On August 5, 2014, Officers from the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to the Allegany High School Athletic Field for a subject that disrupted the Allegany Campers High School Band practice.  An investigation was initiated into the reported crime and it was determined that an unknown subject began to disrupt the band practice, by yelling and cursing. The unknown subject also climbed up a scaffolding platform, where staff members from Allegany High School were directing approximately eighty-eight (88) band members.  While on the scaffolding platform, the subject had a knife in his hands. Although he did not point the knife at anyone, he began to yell threatening remarks towards the staff members. As a safety precaution, the staff members exited the scaffolding platform.  Staff members then directed members of the band to exit the Athletic Field.  One of the staff members took a photograph of the unknown subject.  When Officers arrived on the scene, the unknown subject fled into the woods.

A joint investigation was conducted with the Cumberland City Police Department and C3I Criminal Investigation Unit.  As a result of the investigation, the unknown subject was identified as Brandon Simpson. Numerous interviews were conducted with staff members and band members. It was determined that staff members were placed in danger by the actions of the Brandon Simpson and could have been seriously injured.

The case facts were presented before the Allegany County Grand Jury and a criminal indictment was issued.  Simpson was criminally charged with two (2) counts of Second Degree Assault, two (2) counts of Reckless Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct, and Disruption of a School Activity.  Simpson was incarcerated at the Allegany County Detention Center, pending a bond review in the Allegany County Circuit Court.
