Caller critical of school board program

A frequent caller to WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” who offers commentary on a variety of topics, most recently took the Allegany County Board of Education to task for allocating funds toward what is known as the “Academic Village” program. The board of education’s website defines the program indicating that home school, Eckhart, and Virtual Academic Village (VAV) use Ed Options, an online program with three courses certified by MSDE.  The transition to Common Core State Standards inspired the transformation of these alternative settings. For middle school students, VAV is the last resort option, as Eckhart is the better option for middle school due to its structure and time requirements. The caller offered criticisms of the program, suggesting that Allegany County’s school system is the only in the state utilizing it…
