Canal Place Approaches City on Funding for River Project Study

Canal Place Executive Director Dee Dee Ritchie approached the Cumberland City Council this week seeking funding for the implementation study of the proposed Cumberland River Park project. The request came during the city’s annual public hearing on hotel/motel revenues. The project calls for a river park at the confluence of the North Branch of the Potomac River and Wills Creek behind Canal Place. It will feature a viewing area and elevated walking pier, water access with kayak whitewater features, 3.2-mile river walk loop trail, an overlook and parking. The project will not focus on removing the industrial dam beneath the Cumberland-Ridgeley, West Virginia Bridge.
