Candidate Blaine Young Visits County

Frederick County Commissioner Blaine Young, a republican who is planning to run for governor in 2014,  visited Allegany County last week to provide an update on the Maryland Rural Counties Coalition and how it impacted the 2012 legislative session. Allegany County Commissioner Mike McKay was among those who spearheaded the effort in December of 2011. The coalition, which includes Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Washington and Cecil counties, was designed to lobby for issues important to rural counties, including Plan Maryland, septic and storm water bills, and retaining local autonomy.  Speaking during the county’s business meeting, Young said he believes the coalition’s initial efforts in Annapolis were a huge success and he encouraged Allegany County’s commissioners to sign on again next year- noting that  Frederick County already has…
