First Cumberland Pride Event scheduled in July

June 23rd, 2017 by WCBC Radio

The first ever Cumberland Pride event has been scheduled for next month. While such festivals have been common place for years across the country, the Cumberland event is the first of its kind and is slated for Sunday, July 9, from 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in downtown Cumberland on the mall. Local businesses, performers, and organizations are coming together to celebrate the LGBTQ community in and near the Cumberland area. There will be organized youth activities, live music, and performances. Cumberland Pride is dedicated to promoting diversity and creating a more visible and united LGBTQ community. Jacqie McKenzie, the event organizer, tells WCBC News that Cumberland Pride is organized by local persons living in and near Cumberland, MD who are dedicated to support, educate, link, organize, and provide outreach to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community of western Maryland. While Allegany County residents are viewed as a traditional, more conservation population- Jacqie says she doesn’t expect too much in the way of opposition to the event…
