Casinos Mean Jobs for Area

December 14th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

Maryland will likely have four operational casinos by summer of next year. The owners of the Rocky Gap Lodge and Resort in Western Maryland say that their facility will be up and running in June of 2013. The Rocky Gap casino is expected to employ 350 people, and its owners say it'll focus on hiring Western Maryland residents. Maryland already has 3 casinos — Maryland Live! in Anne Arundel County, Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County, and Casino at Ocean Downs in Worcester County. Plans are in the works for a casino in Baltimore: "Horseshoe Casino Baltimore" is expected to open in 2014. And voters have approved a casino in Prince George's County, but that won't be open until 2016, at the earliest. While there will be economic spinoff resulting from a slots parlor at Rocky Gap, State Senator George Edwards said the most important benefit will be the jobs created.

Yup, casinos = more jobs. So do prisons and dorms at ACM. Are those things worth the negative impacts?
