CDS Robbery Leads to Two Arrests

On Tuesday, an officer on patrol with the Cumberland City Police Department was flagged down by a subject on Virginia Avenue, near Maryland Avenue.  This subject advised the police officer that he was just robbed by two subjects.  A description was given of the two suspects to other officers in the area.  A person who matched the description of one of the suspects was located on South Street, near Second Street.  The victim of the robbery was transported to this location at which time he positively identified this person as one of the subjects who robbed him.  This subject was identified as Vernon Anderson.  During the investigation Officers were advised that this was all over a purchase of illegal drugs.  Officers then found drugs on the victim, Gavin Schaaf at which time Schaaf was also placed under arrest.  The second suspect was later identified and charges on this person are currently pending.  A search warrant was also executed on Schaaf’s vehicle at which time a sufficient amount of suspected Marijuana and currency was found.



Vernon NMN Anderson 3rd          Age: 21          Cumberland, MD

Anderson was charged with; Armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and carry a deadly weapon.  Anderson was taken to District Court for his initial appearance and was held on $15,000.00 at the Allegany County Detention Center.


Gavin Chapman Schaaf           Age: 22          Greenville, SC


Schaaf was charged with; CDS possession of Marijuana, CDS possession other than Marijuana, two counts of CDS possession with intent to distribute and CDS possession of paraphernalia.  Schaaf was taken to District court for his initial appearance and was held on $3,000.00 at the Allegany County Detention Center.
